What happens when we come out.

No charge, no obligation, and no number until we have actually done the math. Every estimate is walked through in person by a King Comfort Consultant.

  • A King Comfort Consultant comes to you. Not a call-center quote, and not a figure guessed off your square footage.
  • We perform a Manual J load calculation. The ACCA industry standard for sizing residential cooling equipment: room-by-room measurements, insulation levels, window area and orientation, ceiling height, air leakage and local design temperatures.
  • You see the options side by side. Efficiency tiers, what each runs per month, and which utility rebates your home qualifies for.
  • You get one fixed written price. Equipment, labor, permits and warranty spelled out, with financing options shown alongside. It does not change on install day.

2026 rebates & incentives

Utility money that's still on the table.

Rebate programs change every year and most have install deadlines, not application deadlines. Here's what applies in our service area right now.

Combined utility rebates available in 2026

Depends on your utility, equipment and system size. We handle the paperwork on qualifying installs.

What changed for 2026

The federal 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, which offered up to $2,000 on qualifying heat pumps, expired December 31, 2025 under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Equipment installed in 2026 does not qualify, even if it was purchased in 2025. Utility rebates are now the main source of savings. If your system was placed in service on or before December 31, 2025, ask your tax preparer about claiming it on your 2025 return.

Replacing the furnace too?

Most of the Illinois gas-side money sits on the heating equipment, not the AC. If your furnace is the same age as your air conditioner, replacing both at once stacks the Nicor Gas furnace rebate on top of your electric utility's cooling rebate, and it's one install instead of two.

What we install

The right system for your home.

Since 1968, King has installed Carrier air conditioners, heat pumps and ductless mini-splits across Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. Most homes here have ductwork, which makes central air the usual starting point. It isn't the only option.

  • Central air conditioners

An outdoor condenser paired with your furnace, cooling through your existing ducts.

  • Heat pumps

Cool in summer and heat in milder months. Often paired with a gas furnace for deep cold.

  • Ductless mini-splits

No ducts needed. Great for additions, finished attics, condos and homes without central air.

  • Carrier equipment

    Installed by a 13-time Carrier President's Award–winning dealer.

Repair or replace?

Signs you need a new air conditioner.

As air conditioners age, they lose efficiency and break down more often.

Not sure? Start with a diagnosis. Our AC repair techs will tell you honestly whether a repair or a new system makes more sense.

  • Your utility bills keep rising
  • Repairs are getting more frequent
  • The house feels more humid each summer
  • Your central AC is 12 to 15 years old or more
How it works

From first call to cold air.

  1. Book your free estimate

Call or use the form. We set a time for a King Comfort Consultant to come out, usually within a couple of days.

  2. We run a Manual J load calculation

Your consultant works through the house room by room, accounting for insulation, window area and orientation, ceiling height, air leakage and sun exposure, to calculate exactly how much cooling your home needs.

  3. We match equipment to the load

With the BTU number in hand we show you the efficiency tiers that fit your home, what each one runs per month, and the utility rebates you qualify for.

  4. You get a fixed price

Written estimate with the equipment, labor, permits and warranty spelled out, plus financing options available with approved credit. No surprises on install day.

  5. We install, usually in one day

NATE and Carrier-certified techs handle removal, install, startup and cleanup. We also file your rebate paperwork.

  6. Backed by our 100% guarantee

If you're not satisfied with the work or the service, call the office and we'll come back and make it right.

What is a Manual J?

Manual J is the residential load calculation standard published by the Air Conditioning Contractors of America, and it is the accepted way to size heating and cooling equipment. Rather than working off square footage, your consultant goes room by room: insulation levels, window area, glass type and which direction it faces, ceiling height, air leakage, shading and sun exposure, and the design temperatures for this part of Chicagoland. The output is a BTU-per-hour load, and that number is what sets the tonnage.

Why sizing decides the price

An oversized air conditioner is the most common mistake in this trade, and it costs you twice. It drops the air temperature fast, then shuts off before it has pulled the humidity out, leaving the house cold and clammy while short-cycling wears out the compressor. An undersized one runs flat out and never quite catches up. Getting the load right is also the honest answer to "what will this cost?" — tonnage drives the number, so the price comes after the calculation, not before it.

Still have a question? Call us 24/7.(708) 687-6898
How much does a new air conditioner cost in 2026?
Most Chicago and Northwest Indiana homeowners replacing a central AC in 2026 land between $5,500 and $16,000 installed. Prices have climbed 15 to 40 percent over the past few years due to the new A2L refrigerant requirement, updated SEER2 standards, and material costs. Your final number depends on system size, ductwork, electrical, and efficiency tier. See the full 2026 cost guide.
Why won't you quote a price over the phone?
Because the honest number depends on things we cannot see from a phone call. Tonnage is the single biggest driver of what an installation costs, and the Manual J load calculation is what sets it. Duct modifications, electrical upgrades, a new line set, difficult attic or crawlspace access, and permit fees all move the total as well, which is why two houses on the same block can land thousands of dollars apart. Once the load calculation is done you get one fixed written price covering equipment, labor, permits and warranty, and it does not change on install day.
What is a Manual J load calculation, and why does King do one?
Manual J is the residential load calculation standard published by the Air Conditioning Contractors of America. Instead of sizing a system from square footage, a King Comfort Consultant works through your home room by room and accounts for insulation levels, window area and orientation, ceiling height, air leakage, sun exposure, and local design temperatures. The result is a BTU-per-hour load that determines the correct tonnage. It matters because an oversized system short-cycles: it drops the air temperature quickly, shuts off before it has removed the humidity, and leaves the house cold and clammy while wearing out the compressor. An undersized system runs constantly and never catches up. Sizing is also the biggest single factor in what an installation costs, which is why every King installation quote starts here.
Are there rebates or tax credits for a new air conditioner?
Utility rebates, yes; the federal tax credit, no. The federal 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, which offered up to $2,000 on a qualifying heat pump, expired December 31, 2025 under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Systems installed in 2026 do not qualify, even if the equipment was purchased in 2025. Utility rebates through ComEd, NIPSCO, Nicor Gas, Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas are still available, and we file that paperwork for you on qualifying installs.
How long will the installation take?
In most cases a new air conditioner goes in within one day. It can run longer depending on the system and your home. We give you a timeline with your free in-home estimate.
How do I know I can trust your team?
We have been helping homeowners with heating and cooling for more than 50 years and have earned several Best of Chicago's Southland awards. We hold an A+ from the BBB and are a BBB Torch Awards for Ethics winner, and we have been recognized for service and product excellence by Carrier and Angi.
Do you install AC systems for businesses?
Yes. We handle residential and commercial air conditioning across Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. Commercial HVAC · Service areas.
