The three usual causes are a refrigerant leak, a frozen or dirty evaporator coil, and a failing compressor. A clogged air filter or a blocked condensate drain can produce the same symptom by choking airflow across the coil. None of these are safe to guess at, because adding refrigerant to a leaking system only postpones the failure. Shut the system off, switch the fan to ON to help a frozen coil thaw, and call for a diagnosis.
