I’m a resident of Dolton, IL, and since the Village has been under “New Mayorship” the residents have to literally jump through hoops to get to rectify any issues when it comes to emergency situations pertaining to a work permit which is required. Like many American cities, many neighborhoods in and around Chicago struggle with poor water quality. Given the age of municipal pipes, lead contamination is particularly concerning. A 2018 Chicago Tribune report found that 30% of sampled homes had lead levels above 5 parts-per-billion. Health care professionals and researchers agree: there is no such thing as ‘safe’ levels of lead exposure. Lead can make adults sick and impair the proper growth and development of children.
