When is the best time for an AC tune-up in Chicago?
Spring, before the first stretch of heat, so anything we find can be fixed while the system isn't under load. That said, book whenever it's been more than 12 months. A July tune-up still catches a weak capacitor or low charge before a heat wave.
Is it too late for a tune-up in the middle of summer?
No. The hardest weeks on a Chicago system are late July and August. If your AC runs longer than it used to, struggles to hold the setting or leaves the house humid, book an in-season tune-up rather than waiting for spring.
Can I do my own AC maintenance?
Handle the basics: change the filter on schedule, keep the outdoor unit clear of leaves and clippings, and keep vents unblocked. Testing refrigerant pressures, capacitors and electrical connections takes gauges, meters and training, and DIY work inside the equipment can void the manufacturer's warranty.
