When should I schedule my furnace tune-up?
Fall is ideal, so your system is ready before the cold weather. There's no bad time for a tune-up, though. If it's been more than a year, book one.
Is an annual tune-up really necessary?
Yes. A yearly tune-up prevents breakdowns and boosts efficiency, and it may keep the manufacturer's warranty intact. Even new furnaces need annual maintenance for that reason.
Can I maintain my own furnace?
Change your filter, but leave the rest to a professional. Working on your own furnace can void the manufacturer's warranty and cause damage that makes it run poorly or unsafely.
How long does a furnace tune-up take?
Usually about 1–2 hours. It depends on the system's age and condition and when it was last serviced. To help, clear the area around your furnace before your tech arrives.
What if you find a problem during the tune-up?
